The State of Madhya Pradesh, in its present form came into existence on Nov 1, 2000 following its bifurcation to create a new state Chhattisgarh. Madhya Pradesh was founded because of its central location in India, and has since remained a crucible of historical currents from North, South, East and West. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest Indian state in size with an area of 308,000 sq. Kms.

The state with a population of 60348 (th) as per 2001 census has a literacy percentage of 64%. It is also the biggest state of the country which is sound both commercially and politically. It boosts of several big industries and other commercial projects. Bhopal being the capital of the state is one of the most imminent developing city of the country. It has shown a tremendous rate of development in recent times, may it be the field of education, sports or infrastructure. It’s a small but a well equipped city having a population of 17 lakhs. It’s famous for its scenic beauty having eight lakes and five hills because of which Bhopal is also called the “City Of Lakes”. Another big city in the state is Indore which is 190 kms from Bhopal and is also known as the commercial hub of the state. The state is very well connected having an extensive rail, road and air network connecting major cities of the country. As far as educational field is concerned it has some of the oldest public schools namely The Daly College, Indore and Scindhia School, Gwalior (Both 100 years old schools)and some recently built school such as Delhi Public School, Bhopal and Indore which has already laid down high standards of education which was lacking in the state. To add to these there are some well renowned colleges for medical and engineering. In the field of commerce colleges it has an IIM (Indian Institute Of Management) setup at Indore by the Government of India which is one of the most prestigious Business school in the country for the post graduation level. The state also has sound government and private medical and engineering colleges, Agriculture colleges, Poly- techniques and National Law College. Some of the government run universities in the state are: Barkatullah University (Bhopal), Devi Ahiliya University(Indore) Jiwaji University (Gwalior) Dr. Harisingh Gour University (Sagar), Rani Durgawati Vishwa Vidyalaya (Jabalpur), Vikram University (Ujjain).
